Lookout Housing and Health Society operates 59 buildings across 15 municipalities across British Columbia cluding housing, shelters, outreach and health services. With the support of the Vancity Affordable Community Housing program, Lookout carried out a strategic visioniong process and review of their real-estate assets which identified 524-528 Powell Street (now 508 Powell Street after rezoning) as a strong redevelopment opportunity that could make a significant impact in addressing housing needs in the Downtown Eastside in Vancouver. The construction project requires the temporary relocation of the Powell Street Getaway (PSG) where it continues to operate as an Overdose Prevention Site and a mental health drop-in resource center. The PSG is being incorporated in the new build with a commercial kitchen and outdoor programming space, along with 114 units of social housing for low-income seniors, Indigenous people, women fleeing domestic violence, newcomers, refugees, working singles, and couples and families.
