Helping build a more affordable B.C.
If you're a builder of affordable, community-owned housing, you know that early support can make or break your project.
The Vancity Affordable Community Housing Program can help.
Our mission is to help organizations increase the supply of climate-ready affordable community housing to increase affordability for all British Columbians, today and for generations to come.
What is the Affordable Community Housing Program?
The Vancity Affordable Community Housing Program provides grants and flexible low-cost financing to not-for-profit, cooperative and Indigenous organizations to support affordable rental housing development.
Our granting program is funded by Vancity credit union and provides up to $50,000 in non-repayable funding to support concept development, feasibility studies and business planning. We also support capacity building, portfolio reviews and strategy planning in addition to sector-wide research and advocacy initiatives.
Our loan program is housed in the Vancity Accelerator Fund, seeded by Vancity credit union in 2011. Since then, the loan program has grown to $25 million, through a significant contribution of capital from CMHC’s Innovation Fund and by leveraging funds from social impact investors seeking to make a positive impact in their communities by preserving and expanding affordable housing while also generating a return on their capital.
